We Have Nothing To Do With It, Have We?

Dengan Nama Allah yang Maha Pemurah lagi Maha Mengasihani

AL-NAKBA 1948 (from iremember1948.org)

{Many Palestinians still carry around their neck the key to their homes in Palestine - homes that they were forced to leave and cannot return to.

Al Nakba is the name Palestinians give to 15th May, 1948 when the State of Israel established itself on the lands, homes and lives of the Palestinian people. Al Nakba translates to "The Catastrophe".

Al Nakba was the moment when the Palestinian people became a nation of refugees. 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes and forced to live in refugee camps. Many who were unable to flee were massacred.

Al Nakba remains in the Palestinian consciousness as the time when their freedom was stolen and to this day it is yet to be returned...}

From there on, world has seen the tears and bloodshed on the land of Muslim. The Israeli occupation is the worst situation and leave Palestinian in deplorable condition ever happen to man being in our century.

Present situation in Palestine;

In General Election 2006, HAMAS has won the trust of Palestinians and gained the mandate to bring Palestine closer to light of freedom. However, Palestine Authority (PA) have encountered economic blocakde since then when EU and America opt to suspend the financial aids dedicated to Palestine previously. Even Israel retains custom duties payment to HAMAS-led government worth USD 50 million a month. Other sources of financial income to Palestine are also blocked off from reaching Palestine from the bank institutions available, due to the constraint imposed on them and fear of the sanction from the US.

As the result, Palestinians are facing grave shortage of money, food and medicine. They are left with last resort to do whatever they can to sustain their basic needs to live a normal life ; which is nearly impossible nowadays. Patients suffering from illness, for example those who are on the dialysis course, have to discontinue the treatment because of the lack of supplies.

It is reported that Palestinians mothers are back to the primitive style to secure living for their beloved ones. Basic staples like bread are made by themselves and use wood as energy source instead of fuel. Some even ride donkeys to get to work place! Around 165,000 Palestinian employees have not received their payment since March/April, thanks to the US and EU, as the result of the economic freeze.

That is the rough idea on the trial faced by Palestinians. The question for us now is :

Do we have anything to do with it?

Muslim scholars have concluded, in Doha during a conference, regarding this matter :

1) "Muslim peoples everywhere must help the Palestinians by all means."

2) "Muslims must offer all means of financial assistance to their fellow ones in Palestine to help them overcome their financial crunch and render plans to mitigate their sufferings a success."

Furhtermore, during their opening session, Muslim scholars threatened to rally world Muslims to boycott countries and banks blocking aid to the starving Palestinian people.

Here are some suggestions on possible action we can do :

Financial Help :
- Try to spend less on less important stuffs (know how to distinguish between NEED and WANTsssss)
- Make habit of saving (you do have “tabung”, don't you?)
- Then, donate to palestine appeal organisation, or get to your local muslim communities ; plenty of ways available to channel your money, in sya Allah.

Boycott :
Some of us find this is quite controversial and not that easy to do. Since some of the products from these companies are somehow well-known from the quality and brand wise, not to mention the good price deal.

Shaddad ibn Aus relates that the Holy Prophet said : “A wise person is one who watches over himself and restrains himself from that which is harmful and strives for that which will confront him after death; and a foolish one is he who gives rein to his cravings and seeks from Allah the fulfilment of his vain desires.” (Tirmidhi)

With respect to the above hadeeth, I’ll leave the decision to be made ourselves. As long as we are sure we have "answers" justifying the action we do, then steadfast to it, and may Allah guide us to the right way.

But they spill our muslim borther’s and sisters’ blood, then why should we "fund" them? For those who interested ;

- Check out http://www.inminds.com/
- Please, please, please don’t just talk and talk and talk about "boycotting" without following it up with serious action

Last but not least, Supplication, Do’a
This is the least that we can do. The prophet Muhammad even said that, to its nearest meaning, a person is not a true muslim if he is not even bother to give heed on what is happening to his fellow muslim ummah.
- Do include the Palestinians and all muslims around the world in our Do’a.
- Pray to Allah for His Guidance, Help and Mercy
- Remember that do’a is muslim’s special weapon!
